Kapiti Coast District Council had a flap gate installed on a new wingwall for the outlet of a pipe into the river. It was quickly discovered that this flap gate did not seal the outfall effectively. This meant that when the river level was high there was water bypassing the flap gate and creating flooding from the stormwater network.
The Council decided to solve this issue by replacing the flap gate with the WaStop Inline Check Valve due to its ability to seal effectively against backpressure while operating under low head pressure.
As this was a new wingwall installing the WaStop was quick and easy. Little preparation was required and the install was completed within two hours.
